WHAT IS ELECTRONICORE?

Electronicore is a sub-genre of Metalcore, The origins of which can be traced back to the early 2000's. Back in the early Myspace era, Many metal bands began fusing Metalcore with electronic music. Songs would flip between low tuned chugging guitar riffs and trance inspired synth breakdowns, often accompanied by heavily autotuned vocals. This style of music became a massive part of 00's Emo/scene culture, with pioneering bands like Enter Shikari, Attack Attack, I See Stars and Asking Alexandria having huge success with their debut releases. Electronicore bands were also often referred to as ‘Crabcore’ bands, due to the guitarists often seen playing in a low squatting position during live concerts and music videos. Although initially a joke, many bands embraced the tag, with many touring groups choreographing dance moves during their performances. By the late 2000's, Most new metalcore bands were adopting this style of playing, It wouldn't be until the mid-late 2010's that the trend really died off. Bands started favouring lower tunings, often played with 7-8 string guitars. Song lyrics and titles became more serious, gone were the ridiculously long song names and choreographed dancing, even bands credited with creating the genre had ditched the labels and moved on to producing more modern sounding Metalcore. Accompanied with the loss of sites like Myspace, Scene culture died off during the late 2010's, However it wouldn't be long until underground bands started to pick up from where the founders left off. After the Covid pandemic, Emo and Scene culture began to make a revival, younger alternative people were discovering the music that kickstarted synth infused rock and metal.

The salient

The Salient aims to do just that, pick up from where we left off. Much of our music was written during the early 2010's, while Electronicore/Crabcore was still very much alive and well. Now with the resurgence of Scene culture, The return of the ‘Vans Warped Tour’ and newer festivals like ‘When We Were Young’ celebrating early Emo heritage, there has never been a better time to bring back the music we grew up listening to. Our upcoming Debut EP ‘This Was Meant To Mean Something’ promises to deliver the sound and feel of early 2000's Myspace metal, alongside live shows that will bring back the chaotic energy of Crabcore to Venues around the UK and beyond.
